Optimal Katana mastery build for Slime Seas: race picks, technique tree, Slime Katana farm, and Demon Lord Rima strategy.
Why Katana First
Katana is the recommended starter mastery for Slime Seas beta players. Fast attack speed generates more hits per minute against Demon Lord Rima's 4,000 HP bar than Greatsword wind-ups, and mobility helps dodge Rima's telegraphed slams on Rima's Spire (Island 3, level 65 gate). Katana stays on the mastery S-tier from level 0 through early Dunes content around level 90.
Your weapon chase begins with Slime Katana at 1.77% drop rate from Rima alongside Iron Novice armor (Pants 23.66%, Chestplate 17.75%, Greaves from Wing Flaps 35.5%). Until Slime Katana drops, upgrade starter gear at the Blacksmith using slime materials from Starter Island and Crimson Ruins (level 30).
Race & Stats
Best races: Lunarian (Fabled, 2%) for balanced stat amplification, Elf (Rare) as realistic code-reroll target, Human (48%) acceptable through first Rima clear. Avoid burning rerolls pre-level 30.
Stat priority: Attack speed → base damage → crit chance → HP. Katana combos scale with speed more than raw power until Sinbad gear appears. After level 160, borrow Thorn armor pieces if staying Katana — they still boost survivability even without Greatsword stance bonuses.
Redeem LIKES25K for 10 race rerolls targeting Lunarian or Elf before investing technique points. Pair with Rima boss guide for first clear timing.
Technique Tree
Allocate technique points in this order for PvE progression:
- Combo extension — extra hits per chain; biggest DPS gain levels 1–30.
- Dash cancel — mobility between Rima phases; reduces potion consumption.
- Critical synergy nodes — after Slime Katana equipped (~level 65+).
- Execute threshold — after level 160 when mob HP pools grow.
LIKES25K grants 2 technique rerolls — use only if you misallocated before level 30. Full leveling route on mastery guide. End-game Katana players chase Hollow Wraith Blade (0.17% Monarch) over staying on Slime Katana indefinitely.
Farm Loop & Transition
Rima loop (level 65+): Activate Superior EXP from codes, queue Rima's Spire, burn 4,000 HP with combo opener → dash cancel → finisher rotation. Target Slime Katana and Iron Novice set completion.
Transition point (level 160): Katana falls behind Greatsword burst on King Sinbad's 15,000 HP. Options: (A) swap mastery to Greatsword and follow Greatsword build, (B) stay Katana for playstyle and accept slower Sinbad clears, (C) hybrid gear with Thorn pieces until Hollow Wraith Blade chase at Monarch.
